Here are some of our favourite tools and resources used when approaching ethical design and climate positive outcomes through design, digital products and websites.

These, as well as many other resources within the toolkit, have ensured a high-level of standard for design, providing reassurance to our partners, relationships, people and the planet on an ongoing basis.

Digital design doesn’t have to represent the 4th largest polluter in the world [source], it can solve so much more through collective effort, consciousness and taking action. It’s time we take ownership and accountability over the work we produce, and truly see design as part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Actions

Look to understand the tools you use, and whether ethical, more sustainable alternatives are available to help mitigate your energy usage and dependencies.

Look to define process that gives predictable results to benefit people and the planet on an ongoing basis.

Take ownership and accountability for elements within your control i.e. hosting using renewable energy, having an ethical design process etc. Champion what you can control and open conversations to influence what you can’t.

Approval and buy-in from clients can sometimes be tricky when tied to business metrics. Rephrase a sustainable approach from an after-thought, to more of an opportunity. Tie this opportunity to business metrics where possible, and justify the reasons why conscious design is good for people, planet and profit.
