We often think of the online world as ‘green’ by default. We’re able to save physical resources by communicating and connecting online. In reality, everything we do online has a carbon footprint. The digital world accounts for approximately 3% of the global greenhouse emissions. To put that into perspective, that’s more than the global aviation industry.

What makes a digital carbon footprint

💻 The devices we use Whether that’s a laptop, a desktop, a smartphone, or a tablet- we use energy and resources to manufacture and ship them, and of course- electricity to power them.

🌐 Powering the internet Physical servers are needed to power the internet which rely on under-sea cables, switches and data centres. These are powered by things like petroleum, natural gas, and coal i.e. burning fossil fuels which, as we know, emits CO2.

The Digital Declutter Checklist

<aside> 💡 The Digital Declutter is designed to help you to examine your tech habits and design processes to spot areas where you can make changes and improve processes. Focuses on reducing energy use, waste and creating more efficient, optimised designs. You can assign tasks to team members and drag the cards over when each checklist is complete.
